Gelatin
Gelatin is a protein that can be made by boiling bones, skin, tendons, and/or ligaments in water. It is often derived from pigs or cows. Gelatin is used in a variety of products, including shampoos, face masks, and other cosmetics; fruit gelatins and puddings (like Jell-O); sweets, marshmallows, cakes, ice cream, and yoghurt; on photographic film; vitamins in the form of coatings and capsules; and occasionally to help "clear" wines. Vegans cannot eat gelatin. However, there is a substance called "agar agar" that is vegan and occasionally sold as "gelatin." It comes from a certain kind of seaweed.
