Resorcinol finds its use in the agricultural industry as a fungicide and herbicide. It is used in the production of herbicides such as 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4,5-T). These herbicides are used to control broadleaf weeds in crops such as soybeans, corn, and wheat. Resorcinol is also used as a fungicide for controlling diseases such as potato blight and powdery mildew. Resorcinol is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water, alcohol, and ether. This chemical compound is a dihydroxy benzene and has a molecular formula of C6H6O2. Resorcinol is a derivative of phenol, which is why it has similar properties to phenol. However, resorcinol is less toxic than phenol and is therefore safer to use in skincare products.
