Types of Sozni Embroidery 

Depending on the intricacy and the consistency of work, suzani embroidery works can be classified into different categories. They are:

Sozni Jamawar Hand Embroidery Pashmina

A Jamawar hand embroidery is usually done with silk thread. It has such heavy and rich work that the base cloth is visible. An artisan took almost two years to finish one Jamawar Pashmina. However, only a few craftspeople can create this Sozni  Jamawar hand embroidery masterpiece.

Bootidar Embroidery Shawls

Bootidar embroidery generally has small handwoven floral or leaf-based motifs known as butah or booti, distributed all over the base material. The artisan takes almost 2-3 weeks to complete the entire bootidar work on a shawl. 

Hashidar Hand Embroidery Shawls

The main feature of the Hashidar hand embroidery shawl is its borders are almost 1/2 to 1 inches wide. The time duration for creating this masterpiece is nearly one month. 

Dordar Hand Embroidery work

This kind of Embroidery work has motifs embellished on the borders in lace-like form. This embroidery is also known as the Meemdor or Dordar embroidery because of the border's thickness. This kind of embroidered border is 3-4 inches broad. 

Palladar Sozni Embroidery Work

This kind of embroidery is often done in Kani Pashmina shawls. It took nearly 3-4 months to complete this embroidery design. 

Jaalidar Sozni Needlework 

Jaalidar is a sophisticated Sozni embroidery that looks like floral meshwork or jaal covering the full base fabric. It takes one to two months to complete the entire embroidery.

1. Aari Hand Embroidery 

Aari hand embroidery or Crewel Embroidery is done especially by Kashmiri craftsperson. The artisans use long hooked needles to create concentric circles or loops using chain stitch. This needlework was also executed to make floral patterns for royal dresses. 

2. Tilla Embroidery Work

Tilla Embroidered Pashmina is famous for its broad embellished needlework borders employing metallic threads of silver or gold. These shawls are worn on special occasions such as weddings and parties.
