Cryptococcosis is a significant opportunistic infection and a leading cause of meningitis in HIV patients. Amphotericin B, fluconazole, and 5-flucytosine are the only antifungal medications available. Aside from the limited pharmacological options, the high toxicity, increased resistance rate, and difficulty of currently available antifungal molecules crossing the blood-brain barrier all complicate treatment. As a result, the search for new treatment options for Cryptococcosis Treatment is critical. In this review, we describe the current therapeutic strategies, discuss new molecules with antifungal potential in various stages of clinical trials and advanced pre-clinical trials, and investigate drug nanocarriers to improve delivery to the central nervous system.
