Building information modelling (BIM) is a process that generates and manages digital representations of places' physical and functional characteristics. It is supported by a variety of tools, technologies, and contracts. Building information models (BIMs) are computer files that can be extracted, exchanged, or networked to support decision-making regarding a built asset. These files are frequently, but not always, in proprietary formats and contain proprietary data. Those who plan, design, build, operate, and maintain buildings and various physical infrastructures, such as water, refuse, electricity, gas, communication utilities, roads, railways, bridges, ports, and tunnels, use Building Information Modelling software.

One of the more exciting advancements in the fields of architecture, engineering, and construction is building information modelling (BIM). Although its implementation is still relatively new and there is much to learn, it is changing the way engineers and contractors conduct business.
