Crotonaldehyde Is Used To Make Pyridines, Thiophenes, Quinaldines, Medicines
Crotonaldehyde is used to identify gas leaks in pipelines as well.

Crotonaldehyde is a lachrymatory substance with a strong odor and a nearly colorless to pale yellow liquid that is very combustible. Although it is poorly soluble in water, it dissolves easily in the common organic solvents such alcohols, ether, and petroleum fractions with a high boiling point. Many mineral and vegetable oils, waxes, fats, natural and manmade resins, and elementary sulfur can all be successfully dissolved using crotonaldehyde as a solvent. It is also employed to find gas leaks in pipe systems. Crotonaldehyde is successfully employed as a starting product in numerous chemical processes and synthesis due to the strong bond within the C-4 chain and the bi-functional group of the aldehyde.
