Isocyanate group compounds include Isocyanates (-NCO). Thermoplastic elastomers, spandex fibers, polyurethane paints, and polyurethane polymers used in polyurethane spraying all cause them to react (hydroxylic). Isocyanates are the primary building blocks of all polyurethane products. Paint, foam, and the production of a variety of polyurethane products, including chemicals, plastic foam, insulation materials, surface laminating products, car seats, cabinets, foam mattresses, undergarments, shoes, laminated fabrics, polyurethane rubbers, and adhesives, may expose workers to isocyanate.
Isocyanates both MDI and TDI are extensively used as insulation spraying applications due to their speed and application versatility. When necessary, foams can be applied and either preserve some flexibility or be sprayed into structures and solidified. HDI is typically utilized in high-performance surface coating applications, including automotive paints. Isocyanates can cause air risks including particles, steam, or aerosols. Due to the potential for repeated exposure when spray painting cars and installing truck bed liners, the population of auto shop workers who are exposed to isocyanates is monitored frequently.
