Right-click on the cookbooks you pick up from pouches in order to learn the recipes they contain. If you've got a stack of these Lost Ark Gold, pressing alt can allow you to use more one at a given time, as you would with any other pile of consumables.
Recipes are scarce, distinguished by their color, and the color of the bag that contains them. The characteristics of rarities include:
Green/common
Blue/uncommon
Purple/epic
Orange/legendary
Once you've completed 20 of the most common recipes After you've learned 20 common recipes, you'll receive three activation points in that engraving. Following that, you'll be required to upgrade to recipes for that rarity. Every 20 recipes at each higher rarity will give you another three activation points. That means that when you've finished your 20 legendary recipes in orange, you'll receive 12 activation points in that engraving.
It doesn't mean that you'll be able to see all the nodes lit up in the particular engraving. It's necessary to equip the engraving first and there's only two slots for equipping the engraving. You may not realize is that you can double-stack them by equipping the same engraving twice to double the effect--something I didn't figure out for a good time.
Your understanding of engravings is a roster-wide knowledge to be sure. Other characters you create in the same server get access to the same engravings that you use for your main when they reach level 50. If they're not a particular class they'll be able to Lost Ark Gold Buy use the battle engravings, rather than the engravings for class, however.
