Local governments may make an effort to maximize the value gained from other businesses and possibilities that are tied to the Mining Automation industry in order to make up for the reduced benefits from local employment and procurement. Increased downstream processing of mined goods or joint use of the railroad and other infrastructure built for mining projects are two examples of how shared value can be produced.
Governments might also try to levy greater royalties on production or higher taxes on business earnings. Governments may rely on extra tax and royalty income to make up for the lost revenue and local spending that will result from reduced employment in mining areas as increased productivity and decreased costs create bigger profits.
