Superconducting Materials are those that, at very low temperatures, can conduct electricity without experiencing any electrical resistance. Superconductivity is a phenomena that happens when a substance is cooled below a critical temperature. Low-temperature superconductors (LTS) and high-temperature superconductors are the two categories of superconducting materials (HTS). With liquid helium, LTS must be cooled as as low as -269°C.

HTS, on the other hand, uses liquid nitrogen, which is more practical and manageable than liquid helium, to function at greater temperatures, often between -135°C and -165°C. Materials with critical temperatures above the typical range of liquid metal temperatures are known as high-temperature Superconducting Materials. A double-lined dash is used to indicate the crucial temperature, as in -45°C (Tc) or -196°C (TK). Such materials are referred to as high-temperature.
