American refrigerators from which you can tap cold drinking water or make ice cubes have a water filter. This water filter prevents the water and/or ice cubes from smelling or tasting like chlorine or becoming cloudy.
The water filter should be replaced after using approximately 1000 liters of water. With normal use, this is after about half a year. After processing about 1000 liters, the filter is exhausted with the risk that the water hose of the refrigerator can clog or calcify. Many refrigerators indicate when the filter needs to be replaced.
How do you replace the water filter?
American refrigerators can have an internal or external water filter.
Internal water filter:
The internal water filter is often located on the inside of the refrigerator, at the top right. Follow these steps to replace the water filter:
1. Turn off the water supply
2. Hold a container under the water dispenser and let some water run out to reduce the water pressure
3. Open the refrigerator and place a container or cloth under the filter . Some water may escape when changing.
4. Carefully unscrew the filter
. 5. Take the new filter out of the packaging and remove the protective cap.
6. Tighten the new filter in the refrigerator
7. Open the water supply again and check that there are no leaks at the filter.
8. Run water through the dispenser for five minutes to flush the system.
9. Reset the water indicator light, how to do this is described in the manual. For a Samsung American fridge you can do this by pressing the Ice Type button for 3 seconds. Doesn't this work? Then try pressing the Ice Type and Child Lock button at the same time for 3 seconds.
External water filter:
1. Turn off the water supply
2. Hold a container under the water dispenser and let some water run out to lower the water pressure.
3. Open the refrigerator and place a container or cloth under the filter. Some water may escape when changing.
4. Unclip the filter first at the bottom and then at the top
5. Take the new filter out of the packaging and look carefully at the position of the entrance and exit. With Samsung water filters, the exit of the filter can be recognized by the Samsung logo.
6. Then remove the protective caps and any protective clips.
7. Connect the outlet hose to the outlet of the water filter and the inlet hose to the inlet of the water filter. In the case of a Samsung water filter, this means that the Samsung logo is on the top.
8. Push the tubes in deeply to prevent leaks. Then click the protective clips back on and click the filter back into the holder.
9. Open the water supply again and check that there are no leaks at the filter.
10. Run water through the dispenser for five minutes to flush the system.
