"The "return back to darkness" The pillar runs through everything from dungeons to lighting and embodies the idea that Sanctuary is an extremely dark and dangerous medieval gothic world."
Zones in Diablo IV will feature variations of lighting and weather, like fog and rain, and include lively props. As lead animator and prop designer Chaz Head points out in the update, the ships swinging in the ocean as well as those nets hanging on the market to dry in Diablo IV's Scosglen Coast area all exist to "breathe life into the fantastic design and terrain" and provide "real-world dimensions that the Diablo world portrays." Other areas that are highlighted within the quarterly update are the sandy grasslands of Orbei Monastery and the "oppressive" settlement in the medieval period of Kyovoshad.

The update also dives into the method used by the team to bring Diablo IV's dungeons to life.
