Crysta IVF - Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

What is ICSI?

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is performed as an added part of an IVF treatment cycle, where a single sperm is injected into each egg to assist fertilization using very-fine micro-manipulation equipment. In most cases, ICSI can be used to overcome male infertility.

Why would I need ICSI?

ICSI helps to overcome fertility problems, such as:

  • The male partner produces very low sperm to do artificial insemination (intrauterine insemination) IUI or IVF.
  • The sperm may not move in a normal fashion.
  • The sperm may have a problem attaching to the egg.
  • A blockage in the male reproductive tract may hold sperm from getting out.
  • Eggs have not been fertilized by traditional IVF, however of the condition of the sperm.
  • In vitro matured eggs are being used.
  • Previously frozen eggs are being used.

Cost of ICSI Treatment in India

A single cycle of ICSI treatment may cost you between INR 70, 000 to 2, 50, 000This includes the cost of injections used to stimulate the multiple egg development, the Cost of the procedure done in the embryology lab, and the Freezing of excess good quality embryos.

The top-rated fertility hospitals in India use top-of-the-line equipment, therefore, ICSI treatments at these hospitals yield a higher success rate, although the pocket pinch will be on the higher side.

ICSI Success Rates

Undergoing IVF with ICSI has a much higher success rate than regular IVF. ICSI usually fertilizes 50-70% of the eggs it is performed on. However, it is important to remember that no procedure can guarantee a 100% success rate. Even when the sperm is directly injected into the egg, it may not fertilize the egg.

Once the egg is fertilized, it must then attach itself to the uterine lining and develop into a fetus. At this stage, the success rate of IVF with and without ICSI is the same. Thus, the success rate of ICSI is not the same as the number of live births after an IVF cycle.
