How to identify plastic molding defects?

When inspecting plastic parts for defects, it is important to be familiar with the different types of plastic molding defects. There are a variety of causes for plastic molding defects, but most can be easily identified by their characteristic appearances.

One common defect is a bubble or blister on the surface of the part. Bubbles and blisters are caused when air bubbles or liquid droplets form during the manufacturing process and then rupture, causing the plastic to expand in all directions. This expansion can cause the part to bulge, crack, or even shatter.

Other common defects involve warped or distorted plastic parts. Warped parts are often caused by incorrect cooling during the manufacturing process. When warm plastic is subjected to cold temperatures, the molecular chains in the plastic can break down and cause the part to warp. Alternatively, warped parts can be a result of an inadequate heat treatment after manufacture. In either case, distorted Plastic parts typically have a twisted or zigzag appearance.
