Stingray City
The Cayman Islands have much to offer tourists, with all-inclusive family vacation packages and other packages that suit anyone’s preference. One of the attractions is Stingray City. While you can visit Stingray City by boat, we recommend booking a private tour to maximize your time and have more opportunities to hand-feed the rays! Many terms will also include snorkeling or other activities in addition to your time at the sandbar. You can even go on a nighttime tour for a more magical experience. It is best to book a tour early to avoid crowds, especially during peak season.
Blue Iguana Safari
The Cayman Islands have long been a place of inspiration for families, and the island is home to many fun activities and attractions. These include the Blue Iguana Trail, a series of colorful sculptures dotted around Grand Cayman that local artists paint to mimic iguanas. These beautiful lizards are native to the island and comprise a significant part of the ecosystem. Their numbers were severely reduced in the 1980s when invasive green iguanas invaded Grand Cayman, causing the native species to become endangered. The iguana population has slowly been restored thanks to a conservation breeding program. The breeding program is led by a group called Blue Iguana Conservation (BIC) and has been working to bring the number of these lizards back to 1300 wild animals. The Blue Iguana Conservation facility is adjacent to Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and offers tours that allow you to see iguanas up close. Visitors can choose from a standard tour with BIC wardens or a self-guided option that will enable them to roam the grounds of the Botanic Park and take photos.
Cayman Turtle Farm
Cayman Turtle Farm is one of the unique family attractions in the Caribbean. Located in West Bay, it's a place where people can interact with the endangered green sea turtle and learn about its importance to our ocean ecosystem. The facility is a popular choice for many cruise ship excursions, and independent travelers can also get there via a taxi or public bus. The farm is home to over a hundred turtles, offering a small aquarium, exhibitions about marine life, and a gift shop.
Pirates Week Festival
Every November, the Cayman Islands celebrate their history of pirates and buccaneers with a week-long festival transforming the island into a giant swashbuckling party. During this time, visitors can enjoy more than 30 events across all three islands of Cayman Brac, Little Cayman and Grand Cayman. The Landing Pageant & Float Parade in George Town is among the biggest and most popular events. Thousands of spectators line the streets to see two old-fashioned sailboats packed with pirates make a surprise landing in the harbor. This festive event is held every November, attracting more than 35,000 visitors. It features a variety of parades, games, performances and fireworks. It starts with a welcome party and bonfire in Cayman Brac (5-7 November 2021) and ends with the main events on the main island of Grand Cayman (11-125 November 2021). The weekend is filled with music, competitions, street dances, games, traditional dishes and drinks, festivals, a Pirate Pooch Parade, sporting events for all ages, a pirate invasion and magnificent fireworks displays!
Cayman Islands National Museum
If you want to spend an afternoon learning about the island's history, this is the place for you. This museum is housed inside Cayman's oldest public building and has permanent exhibits to give visitors a taste of local art, culture, and traditions. The museum also offers educational programs to educate the younger generation of islanders and visiting tourists about the history and culture of Cayman. From workshops and lectures to tours, resources, and children's activities, the museum ensures that every community member can learn about Cayman's past. This waterfront building was once a jail and courthouse but now houses many historical treasures. The 4,000-item collection includes coins, catboats, fossils, documents, and art and crafts. The National Museum is in the quaint and walkable capital of George Town, a pretty little city with many tourist attractions. The museum is a great place to learn about the history of this tiny country while taking in some beautiful sights along the way. The museum is open Monday-Friday, 9 am-5 pm, and Saturday, 10 am-2 pm. Admission costs CI$4.80 for seniors and CI$2.40 for children aged 6-12.
